Alzheimer's
Day Care.
This program began in 1990 in response to the community's need for
respite services for individuals caring for persons with
Alzheimer's or other related dementia. Family members can
bring their loved one to Miller's Place for a few hours or for
a full day, knowing that they are in a safe and caring
environment. Each member of our caring staff has
completed the Activity Director Certification program, and
takes part in ongoing training to enhance their skills for
working with this special population. At Miller's Place, the
program focus is on what an individual can do, rather than on
limitations. Activities include social interaction,
reminiscent type games, sing-a-longs, musical entertainment,
crafts, and theme parties. Appropriate exercise is an
important part of the program. The reasonable daily fee
includes a nutritional lunch, as well as a morning and
afternoon snack. We provide assistance with transportation
arrangements, and third party payer funding is also available.
The Adult Day
Health Care.
Initiated in 1999, this program serves medically fragile adults
over the age of eighteen with physical and mental impairments
that limit their ability to care for themselves and may be at
risk for nursing home placement. The therapies (physical,
occupational, and speech) provided in the Adult Day Health
Care program can assist one in improving or maintaining
strength and mobility. Our Registered Nurse will monitor a
client's diabetes, blood pressure or cardiac problems. In
addition, a Registered Dietician is available to supervise the
provision of meals, as well as provide nutritional counseling.
The Social Worker can assist in coordinating the needs of the
individual with available resources in the community, as well
as provide counseling. Medi-Cal insurance and some long-term
care insurance providers cover the cost of this program. Daily
fees include a nutritional lunch, as well as a morning snack.
Arrangements for transportation are included in the daily fee.
Third party payer funding is also available.
Resource
Center. Our library of books, videotapes, and other resources are available to
the public on a checkout basis. We can provide
information on subjects from legislative issues to home care.
Other community programs are also available.

Activity
Director Classes.
Training opportunities for students, professionals and other persons
providing care for individuals with Alzheimer's and other
related dementia is a major objective of the Alzheimer Day
Care program. As a result, Miller's Place offers a
seventeen-week State-certified Activity Director course that
offers professional training for those seeking to become
activity directors in care facilities.
